Literacy:
Owls in the Family - Describing events from a character's point of view
- Gratitude Jar journal page
- Prefixes

Math:
- Comparing and ordering numbers through games and independent practice
- Addition Stategies:  Adding on 1 and 2

Science:
- Classification of animals

Social Studies:
Students explored the topic of Needs and Wants through the following literature:
- The Rag Coat (Needs and Wants Quilt)
- Last Stop on Market Street
- A Chair for my Mother

Gym:
- Dodgeball-type games (Bench Dodgeball; King's Court)

Looking Ahead:

- Continuing to read and analyze Owls in the Family
- More work on prefixes and suffixes
- Measuring length and ordering numbers
- Continue to build addition strategies
- Exploring life cycles of animals in Science
- Exploring values and identity in Social Studies



Thursday, October 10, 2019

There is no school for students tomorrow as it is a Professional Day for teachers.

Monday is the Thanksgiving holiday.

Students will return to school on Tuesday, October 15.

FALL BOOK FAIR - USED BOOK DONATIONS NEEDED!

Hawkwood School will be having their semi-annual book fair November 19-22nd. Once again we accepting donations of children’s and adult’s books for our Fall Book Fair. Please consider donating popular titles for children such as:
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Bad Guys series
Dog Man
Mighty Robot
Amulet
Elephant & Piggie books
Branches series including Dragon Masters
Any books by Raina Telgemeier (graphic novels)

Please do not bring textbooks, encyclopedias, magazines or any items that are too outdated. Used books can be dropped off in the foyer across from the office.
