Today we found a way to add strength and stability to shapes. The secret is - TRIANGLES!
Last Week:
Math - continued working on multiplication concepts (skip counting, arrays, equal groups, writing and solving problems) - focus on 2X facts
Science - experiments with shapes of pillars and paper beams (which designs hold the most mass?)
- arch bridges and beam bridges
Social Studies - Venn diagram for Rosa Parks and Viola Desmond
Literacy - Guided Reading, Stuck Stories (editing and beginning final drafts), Homophones
Gym - Started soccer skills
Looking Ahead:
Math - multiplication (focus on 3X)
- problem solving with multiplication
- games to practice multiplication facts
Science - suspension bridges; trusses; stability of containers
Social Studies - discrimination and equal rights (for women and people of colour)
Literacy - continue working on final drafts of stuck stories
- begin investigating "voice" as a writing trait. (A strong sense of voice is achieved when the writer does a very good job of making a character seem real, and allows the reader to get to know the character or the person telling the story.) Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend is an example of a book with a strong "voice".
- continue reading The One and Only Ivan
- Guided Reading
