Week of October 28-October 31, 2019


Hoping that Halloween was an exciting time for everyone who participated in this event.
It was fun to see all of the costumes that the students wore to school.



Here is a quick summary of our learning:

Math - Rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100
- estimating sums by rounding to the nearest 10
- estimating length with referents and measuring actual length in cm with rulers and measuring tapes
- ordering numbers
- addition strategies

Literacy - Finished reading Owls in the Family; created chapter summaries and plotted the action on a graph
- Started new read-aloud novel, Poppy by Avi
- Review and practice of letter formation when printing
- Literacy tasks related to Science and Social Studies

Science - Mealworm Observation - Some mealworms are in the pupa stage and some have emerged as Darkling Beetles
- animal research (students have had many opportunities to work with online and print resources to search for answers to our research questions)
- life cycle of a mammal

Social Studies - Looking at community organizations that help those in need in the Calgary area
- Excellent presentation from the Calgary Drop In Centre (DI)
- My Identity
- Continuing to focus on the different facets of what it means to be a Global Citizen

Art - We finished sketching owls and analyzed character traits for Wol and Weeps using evidence from the novel, Owls in the Family
